Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Chen Chern-chyi concluded a two-day visit to the Netherlands May 3, highlighting government expansion of economic and trade cooperation with the European like-minded partner.
 
Chen visited the ministries of Foreign Affairs as well as Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, in addition he held discussions both with representatives of local businesses invested in Taiwan and with Taiwan enterprises operating in the Netherlands. The MOEA added that Chen introduced Taiwan’s investment environment while sharing ways to deepen bilateral industrial collaboration and strengthen Taiwan’s global supply chain role.
 
A highlight of the visit is a keynote speech given at the think tank Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, the MOEA said. In addition to stressing Taiwan’s critical role in global geopolitics, Chen said Taiwan’s new administration will continue current trade policies and is dedicated to the development of industries like artificial intelligence, cyber security and semiconductors together with the Netherlands, the ministry added.
 
Taiwan and the Netherlands have a close relationship in areas spanning sustainable energy, semiconductors and water resource management, the MOEA said, adding that the two sides also hold bilateral economic dialogues on a regular basis.
 
According to the MOEA’s statistics, bilateral trade amounted to US$20.38 billion last year, a record high for the past decade. The Netherlands is Taiwan’s second largest trading partner and investment destination in Europe as well as the largest European source of foreign investment for Taiwan, the ministry said.
