COARENE

The Cooperativa Agropecuaria Regional Nuevo Edén (COARENE), a coffee cooperative in Intibuca, Honduras, was established in 1991. COARENE was initially founded to protect small-scale producers from exploitative intermediaries and to improve the quality of the coffee in the region. Fair Trade certified since 1993 by Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO), COARENE has improved the income, self-esteem, and quality of life of its growing membership. The Fair Trade price has enabled Cooperativa Agropecuaria Regional Nuevo Eden LTDa to establish various social and productive programs like: Education - Productive Investment and Credit Program.
