MOE stages APEC Industry-Academia Collaboration Workshop

The Ministry of Education is staging the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s Industry-Academia Collaboration Workshop, underscoring the government’s dedication to cultivating innovative talent in the region.

The two-day event kicked off Aug. 28 in Taipei City. A total of 31 representatives from 12 APEC member economies, as well as 61 attendees from local tertiary institutions, joined the seminar, the MOE said.

In a pre-recorded video shown at the opening ceremony, MOE Political Deputy Minister Yeh Ping-cheng said it is vital for APEC members to work together to cultivate interdisciplinary professionals and build a more inclusive, sustainable and innovative future amid the complex challenges of the digital era.

Keynote speeches at the event focused on professional training strategies for the digital transformation and academia-industry efforts to tailor workforce skills to meet evolving industry needs.

Academia-industry case studies were also shared, including the promotion of women’s involvement in the science, technology, engineering and math fields by southern Taiwan’s National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology and Malaysia-based STEM ConnectHER’s Asia Foundation.

On the second day of the workshop, participants will visit National Pingtung University of Science and Technology’s Sustainable Development Office and Smart Agriculture Center in southern Taiwan to gain insight into the university’s collaborative R&D model with Taipei-headquartered wellness and beauty manufacturer TCI Co.
