“Taiwan Revealed: AI Technology Island,” the seventh episode of a documentary series co-produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Discovery Channel, is set to be premiered May 9 on the TV channel in Taiwan, with broadcasting starting May 22 in 19 countries and territories across Asia.
According to the MOFA, the film points out that integrated circuit chips produced in Taiwan are the driving force behind supercomputers, smartphones and data centers. It also highlights Taiwan global prowess in the artificial intelligence ecosystem, from chip design and manufacturing breakthroughs to software and hardware integration.
Through three specific examples, the film looks at how Taiwan’s nano-manufacturing revolution propelled the country from an industry follower to a forerunner: a local firm used visual and generative AI to identify anomalies in solar panels; medical experts used AI technology to assist diplomatic ally, Palau, with medical service improvements; and government initiatives helped the Czech Republic cultivate semiconductor and chip design professionals.
The ministry said the documentary not only spotlights Taiwan’s key role in promoting global AI innovation, but also demonstrates how the Taiwan Can Help philosophy deepens mutually beneficial relations with allies and like-minded partners in line with the government’s Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project.
The MOFA has been cooperating with the Discovery Channel to produce documentaries since 2011. The 2023 production “Food Masters: Taste of Taiwan” won this year’s Taste Awards in the Best Non-English Language Program, Series or Film and Best of Asia categories.
